    Three displaced after Charleston house fire

    CHARLESTON, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — Three people are displaced following a house fire in Charleston.

    According to the Charleston Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched to a two story home in the 1300 block of Adams Avenue at 9:50 p.m. on Thursday.

    When firefighters arrived they noted both smoke and flames showing from the back of the residence. Additional crews were called in, and firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly.

    No one was home at the time of the fire, officials said the fire is believed to have started in a first floor bedroom and spread to the exterior of the home. Firefighters reported that the majority of the damage was contained to the bedroom, however the entire home has smoke and water damage as a result.

    Three residents are temporarily displaced as a result. No injuries occurred.

    “The fire is currently under investigation by the Charleston Fire Department, but does NOT appear to be fireworks related,” the news release reads.

    Charleston Fire was assisted on scene by the Mattoon Fire Department and Charleston Police.
