Interstate 95 Coffee Closes Doors, Seeks New Peninsula Location

A West Ashley coffee shop has recently closed, with plans underway for a relocation. According to the 2024 Openings and Closings in Charleston Yelp page , Interstate 95 Coffee has shuttered its doors, leaving its building completely vacant as of yesterday.

A Facebook post addressing the closure highlights the challenges faced by owner Mbarek Kabba at the Savannah Hwy location, prompting the search for a new venue on the peninsula —one with higher foot traffic.

Originally from Morocco, Kabba fell in love with Charleston during a visit to the city, finding its charm reminiscent of his hometown, Kenitra. Shortly after, he made the move to the area.

Interstate 95 Coffee was born in November 2019, inspired by a “splendid café con leche” Kabba enjoyed at a quaint coffee shop in Miami’s Little Havana. It was during his journey back home, cruising along Interstate 95, that the vision crystallized: Kabba would bring that same joyous coffee culture to Charleston. The name “Interstate 95 Coffee” perfectly captured his vision, symbolizing the connectivity of people, businesses, and places along the East Coast facilitated by the iconic road.

Serving up a wide selection of coffee and tea beverages alongside a variety of breakfast options, the coffee shop quickly gained popularity in West Ashley. Notable menu items include the honey cinnamon latte, Americano, breakfast wrap, lox bagel, and cinnamon roll.

Stay tuned for updates on the new location, as What Now Charleston is currently awaiting a response from Kabba.
