    2024-05-16

A Charleston-based restaurant offering Southern cuisine is closing its Forest Acres location after less than two years in business.

Officials at Poogan’s Southern Kitchen recently announced via social media that the restaurant located in the Cardinal Crossing complex at 4506 Forest Drive will serve its last brunch and dinner customers on Sunday, May 19.

The restaurant first opened in August 2022 and featured traditional Southern classic dishes such as chicken and waffles and shrimp and grits.

“We want to express our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you for your patronage and support since our opening,” the restaurant’s staff said in a Facebook post. “Your presence has made our journey truly special. To the people of Forest Acres, your support has been incredible, and we’re grateful for the warmth and community you’ve shown us.”

No specific reason was given for the location’s closing.

Poogan’s Southern Kitchen is owned by Poogan’s Hospitality Group. The group has operated Poogan’s Porch in downtown Charleston since 1976 and also operates other Charleston locations at Poogan’s Smokehouse and Poogan’s Courtyard. A second Poogan’s Southern Kitchen still remains open in Summerville.
