A look at The Charleston Place's multimillion-dollar reimagination project

The Charleston Place is getting a $150+ million makeover. The redesign project will be led by Atelier Kim , the Beemok Hospitality Collection’s new luxury interior design studio.

Jungsoo Kim is the founder and design principal of the studio. Kim has worked on projects like Waldorf Astoria, Ritz Carlton Shanghai, and The Plaza Hotel.

Goals for the project include elevating the five-star hotel’s space while preserving and highlighting the already present historic integrity, culture, and architecture. The project will be broken up into several phases, transforming the following spaces:

• Main entrance and arrival experience
• The lobby and public spaces
• Spa and fitness center
• Meeting and event facilities
• All guest rooms and suites
• Two-story club lounge
• Food and beverage spaces
• Retail spaces
• Market Street Circle courtyard

The hotel will make these changes in phases and plans to remain open during the transformation period.

In fact , the work on the hotel has begun; shutters are being replaced, and ground-level awnings are being installed. A few months back, the second-floor banquet and event spaces closed for updates and are expected to be finished in September.

What’s next? The pool, pool deck, and spa locker room amenities will be closed starting Monday, July 8, the area is expected to reopen next spring.
