A new restaurant is set to replace a beloved downtown establishment.

According to The Post and Courier , Lillian’s will soon occupy the former Harold’s Cabin site at 247 Congress St in downtown Charleston ’s West Side neighborhood.

Named after Lillian Breen Jacobs , who helped expand her husband Harold ’s grocery store into an iconic Charleston establishment, the upcoming restaurant is a tribute to the couple’s enduring legacy.

A seasoned restaurant consultant, Heather Greene of Whole Hospitality Group drew inspiration for the eatery using Harold and Lillian Jacobs’ story. By delving into archives and oral histories, she shaped her vision for the space.

The downstairs area will house a coffee shop serving breakfast, lunch, and local provisions, providing fresh produce and goods to a part of downtown that currently has limited grocery options.

Upstairs, Lillian’s will feature a rotating dinner menu of 10 to 15 seasonal dishes, Greene told The Post and Courier . Minor renovations will enhance the bar area and introduce banquettes, while the rooftop will be transformed into a family-friendly outdoor space.

Greene hopes to open Lillian’s by December 2024, bringing new life to this historic downtown establishment.
