Flooding closes several downtown roads Monday afternoon

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Several roads in downtown Charleston are closed Monday afternoon due to flooding associated with heavy rainfall.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a flood watch for much of the Charleston Metro through Monday evening in advance of the heavy rain from a passing cold front.

The City of Charleston and Charleston County opened free parking at garages ahead of the anticipated flooding. For city parking, 99 WestEdge Street, Charleston Tech Center (997 Morrison Drive), and the 34 St. Philip Street parking garages are open until 8 a.m. Tuesday.

When exiting the garages, press the call button and inform the operator you are taking advantage of the city’s free storm parking.

County parking is available for free at 90 Cumberland Street and 85 Queen Street. Cars must be removed by 8 a.m. Tuesday to avoid a fee.
