CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – To show appreciation to first responders for working 24/7, local convenience stores are thanking them with freebies on Wednesday.

This initiative is hosted by the National Association of Convenience Stores Foundation, bringing together thousands of convenience stores nationwide to offer thanks to first responders.

The association wants to show appreciation to police, fire, EMTs, doctors, nurses, health practitioners, medical personnel, 9-1-1 professionals and Red Cross volunteers for their tireless efforts to make sure people don’t face emergencies alone.

To receive freebies, first responders and emergency personnel need to show up in their uniforms or with a badge to get their free items.

The following stores are participating in the Charleston area:

    • Racetrac: Offering a free any-size coffee or fountain drink
    • Enmarket: In addition to the proceeds donated from its annual charity golf tournament, they are also offering a free fountain drink or coffee
    • Scotchman: Offering free fountain or coffee beverages of any size.
    • Young`s: Offering free fountain or coffee beverages of any size
