DANIEL ISLAND, S.C. (WCBD) – A beloved band with a fanbase that has transcended through the decades is scheduled to perform on Daniel Island Thursday night, despite the forecast.

New Kids on the Block will take the stage at Credit One Stadium as part of their Magic Summer Tour 2024 and will feature special guests, Paula Abdul and DJ Jazzy Jeff. According to the stadium’s website, the show will begin at 7 p.m. and will take place rain or shine.

Fans News 2 spoke with were already lined up at 2:30 p.m. because they were meeting the famed performers before the show.

Sisters Mary McDade & Theresa Barnett said they just moved to South Carolina from Maryland and came to Daniel Island from Myrtle Beach. The concert and meet and greet experience hold a lot of meaning for the pair.

“My sister has never been able to meet them before, I’ve met them one time before. But this has been her dream,” McDade said.

“We lost our parents, we were like ‘gotta learn to live a little,” Barnett shared. Her sister added that the band “really helped her (Barnett) come out of a depression. So, it’s like, they just mean so much to both of us.”

Steve and Starr Penn traveled from Atlanta, GA to celebrate their anniversary and attend the NKOTB concert. Starr said it will be her fifth time seeing the band live and her first time meeting them.

“My favorite is Joey singing ‘Please Don’t Go Girl,’ is probably my favorite thing. And I love Paula Abdul, I love DJ Jazzy Jeff. I’ve been to all of their concerts where, everyone else that they bring is always super cool. So, I just love the whole show, they are amazing performers,” Starr told News 2.

According to the stadium’s website, umbrellas are prohibited.
