    Charleston Sternwheel Regatta, Live on the Levee road closures

    CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – It’s time once again for the annual Charleston Sternwheel Regatta!

    The 2024 event runs from July 3 through July 7, but with Live on the Levee, weekend outdoor dining downtown and Regatta set up, traffic will start feeling the impact of the festivities on Friday, June 28.

    Here’s what you need to know about traffic and additional information in the upcoming weeks:

    • Friday, June 28: Live on the Levee and Outdoor Dining
      • Truslow St, Goshorn St, Court St, Laidley St, and Summers St will be closed all day between Kanawha Blvd and Virginia St, except to local traffic.
        • On-street parking will not be permitted on Court, Laidley or Summers Streets
      • Kanawha Blvd will close from Clendenin St to Hale St at 2 p.m. and will remain closed through Monday, July 8.
      • Capitol St will close from Kanawha Blvd to Lee St at 3 p.m. and remain closed through 11 p.m. Sunday, June 30 for outdoor dining
        • All vehicles must be removed from metered spaces on Capitol St between Kanawha Blvd and Lee St before 3 p.m.
        • The intersections of Virginia St and Quarrier St will be accessible.
    • Saturday, June 29: Outdoor Dining and Regatta Preparations
      • Kanawha Blvd will be closed from Clendenin St to Hale St.
        • Depending on the time the carnival arrives, the Boulevard may not be accessible through Clendenin St.
      • Truslow St, Goshorn St, Court St, Laidley St, and Summers St will be closed all day between Kanawha Blvd and Virginia St, except to local traffic.
        • On-street parking will not be permitted on Court, Laidley or Summers Streets
      • Capitol St will be closed from Kanawha Blvd to Lee St through 11 p.m. Sunday, June 30 for outdoor dining.
        • The intersections of Virginia St and Quarrier St will be accessible.
    • Sunday, June 30: Outdoor Dining and Regatta Preparations
      • Kanawha Blvd will be closed from Clendenin St to Hale St.
        • Businesses along the boulevard between Pennsylvania Ave and Clendenin St will be accessible from Kanawha Blvd or Virginia St.
        • Drivers will not be able to access Kanawha Blvd from Clendenin St.
      • Clendenin St, Truslow St, Goshorn St, Court St, Laidley St, and Summers St will be closed all day between Kanawha Blvd and Virginia St, except to local traffic.

        • Drivers will not be able to access Kanawha Blvd from Clendenin St.
      • Clendenin St, Truslow St, Goshorn St, Court St, Laidley St, and Summers St will be closed all day between Kanawha Blvd and Virginia St, except to local traffic.

    • Tuesday, July 2: Regatta Preparations
      • Kanawha Blvd will be closed from Clendenin St to Hale St.
        • Businesses along the boulevard between Pennsylvania Ave and Clendenin St will be accessible from Kanawha Blvd or Virginia St.
        • Drivers will not be able to access Kanawha Blvd from Clendenin St.
      • Clendenin St, Truslow St, Goshorn St, Court St, Laidley St, and Summers St will be closed all day between Kanawha Blvd and Virginia St, except to local traffic.
        • On-street parking will not be permitted on Court, Laidley or Summers Streets
      • All vehicles must be removed from metered parking spaces on Capitol St between Kanawha Blvd and Lee St for outdoor dining and on Summers St between Quarrier St. and Lee St. for outdoor dining preparations and Regatta preparations respectively.
    • Wednesday, July 3: Charleston Sternwheel Regatta Day 1 and Outdoor Dining
      • Kanawha Blvd will be closed from Clendenin St to Hale St.
        • Businesses along the boulevard between Pennsylvania Ave and Clendenin St will be accessible from Kanawha Blvd or Virginia St.
        • Drivers will not be able to access Kanawha Blvd from Clendenin St.
      • Clendenin St, Truslow St, Goshorn St, Court St, Laidley St, and Summers St will be closed all day between Kanawha Blvd and Virginia St, except to local traffic.
        • On-street parking will not be permitted on Court, Laidley or Summers Streets
      • Capitol St. from Kanawha Blvd to Lee St. and Lee Way will close at 7 a.m. for outdoor dining and remain closed through 11 p.m. Sunday, July 7.
        • The intersections of Virginia St and Quarrier St will be accessible.
      • Summers St. Will be closed from the Summers St. Parking Garage to Lee St. On-street parking will not be permitted, but the garage will be accessible from Quarrier St.
      • Metered Parking will not be available in the Shankin Parking Garage from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
      • The Roosevelt, North Charleston, MLK and Kanawha City community centers will be closed for their Parks and Recreation team to facilitate WesBanco Family Fun Zone activities during the Regatta. City Pools will be open.
    • Thursday, July 4: Charleston Sternwheel Regatta Day 2 and Outdoor Dining
      • Kanawha Blvd will be closed from Clendenin St to Hale St.
        • Businesses along the boulevard between Pennsylvania Ave and Clendenin St will be accessible from Kanawha Blvd or Virginia St.
        • Drivers will not be able to access Kanawha Blvd from Clendenin St.
      • Clendenin St, Truslow St, Goshorn St, Court St, Laidley St, and Summers St will be closed all day between Kanawha Blvd and Virginia St, except to local traffic.

      • Summers St. Will be closed from the Summers St. Parking Garage to Lee St. On-street parking will not be permitted, but the garage will be accessible from Quarrier St.
      • The Roosevelt, North Charleston, MLK and Kanawha City community centers will be closed for their Parks and Recreation team to facilitate WesBanco Family Fun Zone activities during the Regatta. City Pools will be open.
      • WVU Medicine Thomas Hospitals Fireworks Extravaganza closures
        • The Kanawha Blvd closure will extend to Morris St at 6 p.m. and remain extended through the fireworks.
        • Eastbound and westbound lanes of MacCorkle Ave will close between Porter Rd and Corridor G (US 119) at 7 p.m.
        • At 9 p.m., Bridge Rd and Loudon Heights Rd will close at Grosscup Rd and the Southside Bridge will also close.
          • These closures will reopen after the fireworks. Kanawha Blvd will remain closed from Clendenin St to Hale St.
    • Friday, July 5: Charleston Sternwheel Regatta Day 3 and Outdoor Dining
      • Kanawha Blvd will be closed from Clendenin St to Hale St.
        • Businesses along the boulevard between Pennsylvania Ave and Clendenin St will be accessible from Kanawha Blvd or Virginia St.
        • Drivers will not be able to access Kanawha Blvd from Clendenin St.
      • Clendenin St, Truslow St, Goshorn St, Court St, Laidley St, and Summers St will be closed all day between Kanawha Blvd and Virginia St, except to local traffic.
        • On-street parking will not be permitted on Court, Laidley or Summers Streets
      • Capitol St. from Kanawha Blvd to Lee St. and Lee Way will be closed for outdoor dining.
        • The intersections of Virginia St and Quarrier St will be accessible.
      • Summers St. Will be closed from the Summers St. Parking Garage to Lee St. On-street parking will not be permitted, but the garage will be accessible from Quarrier St.
      • Metered Parking will not be available in the Shankin Parking Garage from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

      • At 3 p.m., the Kanawha Blvd will also close from Patrick St to Ohio Ave for fire parade staging.
      • When the fire parade starts at 5 p.m., there will be a rolling closure starting at Kanawha Blvd to Ohio Ave. It will go left onto Ohio Ave, right onto Virginia St, right onto Leon Sullivan Way, and left onto Kanawha Blvd. The fire trucks will exit the parade route eastbound toward the State Capitol.
        • On-street parking will not be permitted on Leon Sullivan Way between Kanawha Blvd and Virginia St, or on Virginia St from McFarland St to Leon Sullivan Way.
        • Anyone wanting to go on Virginia St between Ohio Ave and Leon Sullivan Way should do so before the Fire Parade, or they will have to stay parked/paused until the parade passes by.
    • Saturday, July 6: Charleston Sternwheel Regatta Day 4 and Outdoor Dining
      • Kanawha Blvd will close between Pennsylvania Ave and Patrick St. at 7 a.m. for the Laurance Jones, III Childhood Language Center Firecracker 5K through the end of the race.
        • The race will start on the Boulevard at Magic Island, go to the Hills Plaza, and then turn around back to Magic Island.
        • Homes and businesses will be accessible with help from the Charleston Police Department during the closure. People who are parked on the Boulevard will also be able to get out with the help of CPD.
      • After the 5K, Kanawha Blvd will stay closed between Ohio Ave and Pennsylvania Ave until 1 p.m. for the All Breed Dog Costume Parade & Weiner Dog Races
      • Kanawha Blvd will be closed from Clendenin St to Hale St.
        • Businesses along the boulevard between Pennsylvania Ave and Clendenin St will be accessible from Kanawha Blvd or Virginia St.
        • Drivers will not be able to access Kanawha Blvd from Clendenin St.
      • Clendenin St, Truslow St, Goshorn St, Court St, Laidley St, and Summers St will be closed all day between Kanawha Blvd and Virginia St, except to local traffic.
        • On-street parking will not be permitted on Court, Laidley or Summers Streets
      • Capitol St. from Kanawha Blvd to Lee St. and Lee Way will be closed for outdoor dining.
        • The intersections of Virginia St and Quarrier St will be accessible.
      • Summers St. Will be closed from the Summers St. Parking Garage to Lee St. On-street parking will not be permitted, but the garage will be accessible from Quarrier St.
      • There will be a rolling closure on the Southside Bridge from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. for the Great Rubber Duck Race.
      • Another rolling closure will take place at 2 p.m. for the Funeral Parade.
        • The parade route starts at Capitol St. and Lee Way, then turns right onto Quarrier St, then right onto Summers St, then ends at the Slack City Plaza.
        • Staging for the Parade will begin at 1:30 at Capitol St. and Lee Way.
      • The Roosevelt, North Charleston, MLK and Kanawha City community centers will be closed for their Parks and Recreation team to facilitate WesBanco Family Fun Zone activities during the Regatta. City Pools will be open.
    • Sunday, July 7: Charleston Sternwheel Regatta Day 5 and Outdoor Dining
      • Kanawha Blvd will be closed from Clendenin St to Hale St.
        • Businesses along the boulevard between Pennsylvania Ave and Clendenin St will be accessible from Kanawha Blvd or Virginia St.
        • Drivers will not be able to access Kanawha Blvd from Clendenin St.
      • Clendenin St, Truslow St, Goshorn St, Court St, Laidley St, and Summers St will be closed all day between Kanawha Blvd and Virginia St, except to local traffic.
        • On-street parking will not be permitted on Court, Laidley or Summers Streets
      • Capitol St. from Kanawha Blvd to Lee St. and Lee Way will be closed for outdoor dining until 11 p.m.
        • The intersections of Virginia St and Quarrier St will be accessible.
      • The Kanawha Blvd closure will extend to Morris Street at 7 a.m. for the Classic Car Show. The closure will revert back to Hale Street at 7 p.m.
    • Monday, July 8: Charleston Sternwheel Regatta Clean Up
      • Kanawha Blvd will remain closed from Clendenin St to Hale St. while vendors load up and leave.
      • Clendenin St, Laidly St, Court St. and Summers St. will also remain closed from Kanawha Blvd to Virginia St.
      • The closure will remain in effect until all vendors, etc. are out of the area and the traffic signal has been reattached.
        • City officials say the section of Kanawha Blvd between Court St and Capitol St may not reopen until Tuesday, July 9, depending on the clean-up.
