UPDATE (12:38 p.m. on July 20, 2024) — Power in the affected area has been restored after a vehicle crash in Charleston’s West Side knocked the power out Friday night, according to Appalachian Power.

CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) — A two-vehicle crash on Charleston’s West Side caused one of them to flip over and crash into a transformer, causing an explosion and a fire.

The Charleston Police and Fire Departments are on the scene.

In that region, more than 1,000 customers are without power, according to the Appalachian Power outage map. The estimated time of restoration is around 5 a.m. on Saturday.
