CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK)– After the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association lost power on July 16, the shelter posted on social media asking for help to keep the animals cool.

Dawn Frohna, brought ice and fans to help, beat the 96-degree heat that day.

When Frohna was there, she was told that the shelter did not have a generator, and so she decided to take matters into her own hands.

She started a GoFundMe page, to raise money for the shelter to buy a generator so that this situation doesn’t happen again.

“We have some pretty severe weather here in West Virginia, both, you know, really hot and humid and also freezing temperatures. So, I really, really want this to hopefully avoid risk in the future.” Frohna said.

Frohna also says a generator will help them keep medications cold and animals safe in power outages.

“…I really feel like that’s a basic necessity for the animal shelter to have,” Frohna said.
