CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Appalachian Power Co. and Wheeling Power Co. have been given the go-ahead to adjust their rates to meet federal environmental regulations at three of their power plants .

The Public Service Commission of West Virginia approved the request, allowing the companies to raise the current surcharge by $35.6 million. This is slightly lower than the $37.2 million originally requested.

The new rates will take effect from September 1.

The additional funding is required for the John Amos, Mountaineer, and Mitchell coal-fired power plants to carry out internal modifications necessary to comply with federal environmental standards.

The request for the rate increase was made by the companies on October 20, 2023.

During a public comment hearing on February 29, only one member of the public opposed the proposal. For more details about this case, you can visit the PSC website and access Case No. 23-0831-E-P under “Case Information”.
