CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Governor Jim Justice announced today that Breeze Airways, a premium leisure low-cost airline, will soon offer direct flights from Charleston to New York-Newark, starting November 14.

Newark International Airport is one of the three primary airports serving New York City. “This collaboration with Breeze Airways continues to surpass expectations, and I am excited that the airline is expanding its services to connect West Virginia with the New York area,” stated Governor Justice. “Airports play a vital role in our economy, boost tourism, and enhance accessibility to our state. They serve as gateways to and from West Virginia, inviting the world to explore its beauty. I eagerly anticipate Breeze’s ongoing success in West Virginia and the influx of visitors drawn to our great state due to this significant partnership.”

Today’s announcement marks another significant step in the historic collaboration initiated in March 2023. This award-winning airline has pledged to introduce five new destinations as part of this partnership. Breeze currently operates flights from Myrtle Beach, SC, Orlando, FL, and Tampa, FL, to West Virginia International Yeager Airport, all of which are performing well.

“Charleston has proven to be a strong market for us over the past year, and we continue to identify more growth opportunities,” remarked David Neeleman, Founder and CEO of Breeze Airways. “Now, guests from West Virginia can enjoy our affordable, premium leisure service on the only nonstop flight from Charleston to New York.” Breeze operates flights to over 50 cities across the U.S. and continues to expand. Recently ranked among the top five in Travel + Leisure’s “Best Domestic Airlines” for the third consecutive year, the airline started with service from just 16 cities in May 2021. Since then, it has experienced significant demand for its unique “premium leisure” model, which combines efficiency and affordability with comfort and accessibility.

“The 20 million residents of America’s largest metropolitan area now have direct access to a premier tourism destination,” said West Virginia Tourism Secretary Chelsea Ruby. “We are excited to welcome more visitors to experience our world-class outdoor recreation and stunning natural landscapes. A special thanks to Governor Justice, the Legislature, the Kanawha County Commission, and the City of Charleston for their ongoing support in promoting West Virginia tourism.”

This marks the first direct flight from CRW to New York in 11 years, continuing a positive trend. CRW recorded a record number of enplaned passengers in May, with 19,606 boarding aircraft. In total, over 38,735 travelers passed through the airport that month, reflecting a 21% increase from May 2023, making it one of the busiest months at CRW since 2019, prior to the COVID pandemic.

“The New York City area is one of the most requested destinations by our community, and now our travelers have even more reasons to choose West Virginia International Yeager Airport,” stated Airport Director & CEO Dominique Ranieri. “This new route not only improves access and options for visitors to the New York City area but also expands connectivity to other destinations. Breeze Airways has been an excellent addition to West Virginia, and we look forward to their continued growth at CRW.”

Flights to New York-Newark, NJ, will commence on Thursdays and Sundays starting November 14.

One-way fares for the new route begin at $49, and tickets can be purchased at flybreeze.com .
