An estimated $2.5 million in damage was reported in Charlestown, when a residence known by local residents as the Eagle Point Rod and Gun Club went up in flames on Monday.

Dozens of firefighters from the Charlestown Volunteer Fire Company and nearby agencies responded to the historic residence on Conestoga Street at around 2:40 p.m. on June 24, when a neighbor reported a fire at the 4,000-square-foot residence.

It took crews approximately an hour to get the flames under control, and investigators stated that high winds attributed to the rapidly spreading fire that destroyed the home.

According to investigators, the fire was sparked in the area an HVAC unit on the right side of the residence.

"While the cause remains under investigation, they will focus on various accidental causes," the fire marshal stated. "The estimated damage to the home, its contents, surrounding structures, and other nearby houses is $2.5 million."

    No injuries were reported.
