Lamprey control and survey scheduled in Emmet, Charlevoix counties
NORTHERN MICHIGAN — Lampricide treatment and a survey for invasive sea lampreys will be taking place this month in waterways in Emmet and Charlevoix counties. According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, personnel will apply lampricides to a Carp Lake outlet in Emmet County and to Horton and Porter creeks in Charlevoix County between July 16–25.

WexExpress working to streamline access to rural transit information
CADILLAC — The state of Michigan recently launched a new program that aims to make the process of locating public transit options in rural areas more streamlined. The project is funded through a United States Department of Transportation grant and participating public transit agencies include Benzie Bus, Cadillac/Wexford Transit Authority (WexExpress), Charlevoix County Transit and Roscommon County Transportation Authority.
Motorcyclist spotted going 110 mph before fatal crash in Northern Michigan
CHARLEVOIX COUNTY, MI – Witnesses say a Michigan man who died in a motorcycle crash was traveling approximately 110 miles per hour when the incident occurred. Michigan State Police in Gaylord responded to the scene of the three-vehicle crash, which occurred on Thumb Lake Road near Springbrook Road in Charlevoix County’s Boyne Valley Township at 9:48 p.m. on July 6.

Charlevoix County Civil War veteran honored with graveside ceremony
MELROSE TOWNSHIP — Nearly 90 years after his death, Corporal Royal Bradford Teachout's life was celebrated once again, with a graveside ceremony. On Saturday, June 22, the Robert Finch Camp No. 14 of The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War made their way to Maple Hill Cemetery to honor Teachout, the last surviving Civil War veteran in Charlevoix County when he died Nov. 1, 1937. He was 94 years old.
