Billings Flying Service Wins First-Ever Type 1 Exclusive Use Contract with Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation
BILLINGS, MONTANA (July 2, 2024): Montana-based Billings Flying Service (BFS) is pleased to announce it won Montana’s Department of Natural Resources and Conservation’s first exclusive use type 1 helicopter firefighting contract. BFS is providing a tanked CH-47 Chinook helicopter with high-volume precision water drop capability for the summer fire season contract, which started July 1. The aircraft will be based in Montana, however, could be mobilized to surrounding states under a cooperative agreement in place between the US Forest Service and State of Montana.

Eight-year-old Poppy George stood out amongst older folks, placing second in the Best of Whitefish Best Athlete category. George said her mantra is, “I believe in myself. I believe in my team. I believe in God.” George has been a martial arts student at SBG Gym for three years and has a gray/black belt. She also plays soccer with Glacier Surf and her soccer team brought home the gold in their latest home competition, the 3 Blind Refs tournament at the KidSport Complex in Kalispell. The annual tournament is the largest in Montana with over 180 teams coming in from Montana, Idaho, Washington and Canada. Aided by her teammates’ awesome performances, George helped her team score two goals for the win. Among George’s accolades is Mutton Busting Champion, as she competed at the Montana Longhorn Company's Mutton Busting Championship. Veterans retreat expands near Thompson Falls
On a peaceful mountain retreat in Thompson Falls, close to 100 people gathered recently to celebrate the acquisition of a new 60-acre facility for a veterans group called, Patrol Base Abbate Return to Base.Located on Tanager Road, this off-grid mountain base above the Clark Fork River exists as a place for veterans from all branches to rest, reconnect with other fellow military personnel, and rediscover the meaning of service to themselves, families and communities.
