    Charlotte County picks six new principals

    PORT CHARLOTTE — Six schools in Charlotte County will see new principals for the upcoming school year.

    Charlotte County Public Schools announced its lineup this week, revealing the changes across the district.

    Danielle Hudzina was appointed principal of Kingsway Elementary School, transitioning from her role as the district’s Human Resource Director. Hudzina holds master’s and doctoral degrees in educational leadership from Florida Gulf Coast University and brings nearly two decades of experience in Southwest Florida school districts.

    Grace Tollefson has joined the Peace River Elementary team as principal after serving as principal of Myakka River Elementary School since 2016. Tollefson holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in educational leadership. Tollefson has also been a an employee of CCPS for 18 years.

    Jody Poulakis has been selected as principal of Myakka River Elementary School, returning to CCPS after serving six years as a principal in the Lee County School District. Poulakis holds a specialist degree in educational leadership and a master’s degree in special education. Poulakis has nearly three decades of experience in education, and of those, 21 years working for CCPS.

    Keli Sare has been promoted to principal of Sallie Jones Elementary School after the retirement of long-term principal Jennie Hoke. Previously serving as assistant principal for the past two years, Sare brings extensive experience to her new role. Sare holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from the American College of Education and a bachelor’s degree in exceptional student education.

    Sare has also been a employee of CCPS since 2001, serving in various capacities.

    Kristy Johnson has been named principal of Charlotte Harbor Center after the retirement of Principal Herb Bennett at the end of the 2023-24 school year.

    Johnson has held the position of director of Exceptional Student Education since 2017. Johnson holds a specialist degree in educational leadership and a master’s degree in specific learning disabilities.

    Tara Whisenant has been promoted to principal of Port Charlotte Middle School, following her tenure as assistant principal since 2018. Whisenant holds dual master’s degrees in educational leadership and special education and boasts nearly three decades of experience in education, having served in diverse roles.

    Superintendent Mark Vianello extended his congratulations to the new CCPS principals, sharing his confidence in their leadership capabilities.

    “I am excited to introduce our new principals to their roles within CCPS. Their dedication, experience, and passion for education align perfectly with our strategic plan’s commitment to achieving success for all,” Vianello said. “Together, we will continue to build on our tradition of excellence, ensuring every student has the opportunity to thrive. With their leadership, we will accomplish great things this year and beyond, driving our vision forward and meeting our strategic goals.”
