The Scorpio Nightclub , the LGBTQ+ sanctuary on Freedom Drive for fifty-five years, announced on its Instagram page Friday that it is moving to Southside Park, replacing RSVP South End . The club officially turned off its disco balls and shut its doors for the last time on October 31, 2023.

The new location, at 225 Fairwood Ave, boasts 15,000 square feet, spread across three bars and two rooftops, offering a modern dance floor, intimate speakeasy vibes, a climate-controlled garden bar with a private rooftop, and much more. This expansion aims to elevate Charlotte’s LGBTQ+ nightlife, providing a unique venue with diverse DJs and events, creating an inclusive haven for all, according to the announcement.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to RSVP South End’s Managing Partners for their enthusiastic embrace of this transition,” Owners of The Scorpio said. “Their support and collaboration have been invaluable in making this dream a reality.”

The new venue will allow Scorpio’s to operate seven nights a week while continuing RSVP South End’s private event business. This versatile space will cater to various events, from weddings to corporate functions, ensuring it meets the diverse needs of the community.

This significant milestone highlights Scorpio’s commitment to providing a safe and welcoming space for the LGBTQ+ community. Since its establishment in 1968 by Marion and Floyd Tyson, Scorpio’s has been a cornerstone of LGBTQ+ nightlife, and this new chapter promises to continue that legacy, offering a vibrant social hub for the community.
