CHARLOTTE ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A large sewage spill near a south Charlotte creek is being reported Monday by Charlotte Water.

Officials said about 1,175 gallons of wastewater overflowed near 6323 Woodleigh Oaks Drive and reached McAlpine Creek in the Catawba River Watershed on Sunday.

“A majority of wastewater overflows can be prevented with your help,” Charlotte Water officials said. “Anything put in plumbing or a manhole can cause wastewater overflows, spilling raw sewage into your street, your creek or even inside your own home. Even products labeled as ‘flushable’ do not break down in the sewer system and can contribute to clogging.”

Grease was said to be the cause of the latest spill.
