CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – About 6,000 people were without power in the greater Charlotte area Monday morning.

There were 3,000 Duke Energy customers without power near Mount Holly, which was first reported around 5:25 a.m.; the number is down to 1,000 around 3:30 p.m.

Those are expected to be restored by 6 p.m., and Hawthorne Street is closed between Glendale Avenue and Catawba Avenue near the origin of the outages.

Over 1,000 customers were without power in a community at the bottom southwest corner of Lake Norman by Lowesville. The cause of both of those outages has not yet been announced.

Another 1,000 by the Carolina border were without power near Ballantyne due to an “object coming into contact with power lines,” Duke Energy said. That outage is expected to be resolved by midday Monday.
