National outlet gives a laughably bad take on the Panthers' current quarterback situation

Bryce Young's rookie season wasn't perfect.

It was a disappointing campaign. He threw 11 touchdowns to 10 interceptions while amassing 2,877 yards and a 59.8 completion percentage.

Those are far from world-beating numbers. However, Bleacher Report went as far as ranking Young and the Panthers quarterback position as the third worst in the league, which feels like a massive stretch.

"While important context is needed as Young's surroundings were drastically less than optimal, the 2023 No. 1 overall simply failed to show flashes of stardom that would lower any initial caution flags from an organizational brass," writes Ryan Fowler. "With the level of talent, and coaching, drastically improved around Young this fall, it'll be on the talented signal-caller to silence doubters and get Carolina back on the tracks towards relevancy."

Ranked ahead of the Panthers were the Las Vegas Raiders and the New York Giants.

Though Young wasn't perfect during his rookie season, he did show flashes of what he could be as a lead signal caller.

The game that immediately comes to mind is his Christmas Eve matchup with the Green Bay Packers. He finished 23-35 with 312 passing yards, two touchdowns with no turnovers.

That is the type of quarterback play the Panthers are hoping for in the 2024 season. And it is a level of play Young is capable of.

Countless teams would love to have a former No. 1 overall selection as the starting quarterback of a franchise. Young's initial struggles don't paint the complete future or the consistency of the quarterback position for the Panthers.

Betting low on Young is the popular position right now. With the additions to the offensive line – Damien Lewis and Robert Hunt – and added weapons in the passing game – Xavier Legette and Diontae Johnson – Young has a chance to truly leave his mark on Carolina. There is no reason to believe he won't. He was drafted No. 1 for a reason.
