The 2023 season was a disaster for the Carolina Panthers . Frank Reich was fired in his first season as head coach and quarterback Bryce Young struggled mightily as a rookie.

His struggles were only compounded by the Carolina Panthers watching C.J. Stroud, the No. 2 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, turn into a star with the Houston Texans. He led his team to the playoffs and took home the Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

Bryce Young and the Carolina Panthers finished with the worst record in the NFL. They didn’t even reap the benefits of such a poor season as their first-round pick was owned by the Chicago Bears from the trade to move up and select Young.

While Year 1 was rough, there is optimism heading into Year 2. The Carolina Panthers have a new head coach in former Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dave Canales.

Panthers fans should be excited about what he can do to help Bryce Young develop. They saw first-hand how positive of an impact he had on Baker Mayfield with the Buccaneers in 2023 as a reclamation project.

Not only will the coaching be better, but Bryce Young is also surrounded by a much better supporting cast. The front office made a concerted effort to improve the skill positions around their young quarterback.

Wide receiver Diontae Johnson was acquired in a trade from the Pittsburgh Steelers. In the 2024 NFL Draft, the team selected wide receiver Xavier Legette, running back Jordan Brooks and tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders.

They’ll be joining holdovers Adam Thielen, Jonathan Mingo, Terrace Marshall Jr., Chubba Hubbard and Miles Sanders. With improved weaponry, Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report is expecting major improvements from Bryce Young in 2024.

“Projected Stats: 61.2 completion percentage, 3,581 passing yards, 20 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, 244 rushing yards, 2 rushing touchdowns,” wrote Davenport.

As a rookie, Bryce Young failed to complete 60 percent of his passes and didn’t reach 3,000 yards. He threw only 11 touchdowns with 10 interceptions in 16 games, going 2-14.

There will assuredly be improvements in Year 2, as those projections could even be considered conservative by some. The Carolina Panthers may not win many games in 2024, but they will be much more competitive, leading to better results from their young quarterback.
