    CMPD: No major incidents during Uptown July 4th celebrations; 12 arrested

    CHARLOTTE ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) – A year after Uptown 4th of July celebrations turned into a brawl with over 30 arrests, the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department says this year’s gathering went without any major incidents .

    Before this year’s celebration and fireworks show, CMPD announced that officers would take several safety measures , including visiting juvenile offenders’ homes ahead of the holiday.

    Over 30 arrested or cited after brawl during Uptown Charlotte July 4th celebrations, CMPD says

    Of the 32 homes visited, only one teen “reoffended” during the gathering.

    In total, CMPD says they arrested 2 adults and 10 teenagers from the Uptown event. Officers seized a gun, a magazine of ammunition, over 12 pounds of marijuana and 3 boxes of illegal fireworks.

    The adult suspects are identified as 18-year-old Kendric Patton, who is charged with Resist/Delay/Obstruct and Simple Drug Possession, and 27-year-old Maurice Brown, who was already wanted for Identity Theft.

    From his Uptown arrest, Brown was also charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, Resist/Delay/Obstruct and Possession of Pyrotechnics.

    “There’s having 4th of July fun, and then there’s this guy,” CMPD said on X. “Don’t be like this guy.”

    The 10 teens arrested were between 13 and 17 years old. CMPD says the charges against the juveniles include the following:

    • Carrying a Concealed Weapon
    • Affray
    • Possession of Pyrotechnics
    • Possession of Marijuana
    • Resist/Delay/Obstruct.

    A command center ran from 6 p.m. to midnight during the holiday festivities. CMPD relied on partnerships with Charlotte Fire, MEDIC, CATS, CDOT and Mecklenburg County Emergency Management.
