CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The City of Charlotte hosted a grand pep rally to send off the U.S. Women’s Field Hockey team to the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Charlotte is home to both the men’s and women’s USA Field Hockey teams.

The event took place Saturday at the Providence Day School.

“These remarkable athletes embody the spirit of Charlotte – determination, teamwork, and excellence,” said Mayor Vi Lyles. “We’re immensely proud to send them off to Paris, knowing they carry the hopes and dreams of our city with them.”

The event included a meet and greet with the Olympic team, music, entertainment for all ages and special appearances from local stars and former Olympians.

Amanda Golini, team captain, expressed the team’s gratitude, “The support from Charlotte has been incredible. This city has become our second home, and we’re honored to represent both Charlotte and the USA on the world stage.”

The pep rally also served as a fundraiser for the team’s expenses to Paris.

Charlotte-Douglas Airport shared a post wishing the team good luck on their way to the Olympics.
