The Pub at Gateway to Move to New 500 West Trade Street Building

The Pub at Gateway is in the process of moving to a new location, the bar and restaurant announced on its Instagram on June 19. It will be moving from its Gateway location at 710 W Trade Street to the 500 West Trade building, about a block away from the original location.

The Pub at Gateway opened in 2007 to bring a modern twist on a classic pub to the Uptown Charlotte community. The menu features burgers, wraps and appetizers in addition to drinks.

Eddie Romero , the owner of The Pub at Gateway, said the fact that the new space is double the size of the original location is what mainly fueled the decision to move. The neighborhood pub has seen an uptick in business since the COVID-19 pandemic, so Romero saw a need to expand.

“We were just at a standstill where we had done the most that we could do with the small space that we had,” Romero said. “We needed more space so we could do more business.”

The move will also come with a slight rebranding, including a name change from The Pub at Gateway to The Pub at Uptown . Additionally, Romero said customers can expect a fresh, revamped look to the dining room and slight changes to the menu such as additional burger options. The pub is also considering adding a brunch option on Sundays.

“It’s not going to be too much different,” Romero said. “It’s still going to be a pub and have the same feel, but everything is going to be new because we’re building up from scratch and it’s going to be a little more efficient and conducive to what we do.”

500 West Trade features both a high-rise and mid-rise tower, offering apartment units as well as 8,590 square feet of ground-floor retail and restaurant space.

While there is not a set date for reopening, Romero said that they would like to open the new location in the fall. Since the restaurant is located in close proximity to Bank of America Stadium, they would like to be able to serve the community during the football season.

“It’ll be a lot of the same thing everyone’s accustomed to — the same menu, same staff, same ownership,” Romero says. “We spent 17 years at Gateway, and we’re gracious that they supported us through that time and during a global pandemic, and [that] our employees have stuck with us.”
