CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are searching for a killer in south Charlotte.

Thursday morning police announced they found the BMW belonging to Whitney Hurd , the missing woman who was found dead in her townhome on Werburgh Street on Sunday.

Police have ruled the case a homicide.

The call from the Magnolia Park neighborhood is disturbing.

The dispatcher seems to say that a private investigator found Hurd’s body and there was a lot of blood in a blanket.

The shockwaves are still filtering through the neighborhood.

“It’s crazy, I live one street over with my wife, we never would have expected to be interviewed about a homicide investigation in SouthPark,” said Hill Gage, a neighbor.

The police tape was up right outside neighbors’ windows.

“It was a little bit of concern so close to home,” said Mike Zeinemann, another neighbor.

Zeinemann didn’t know 32-year-old Hurd, who lived two doors down from him had been missing for ten days until police showed up in the neighborhood Sunday.

“You don’t want to see anything like that, you just hope it’s not something random, as bad as it sounds random, or just kind of a weird break-in, that’s kind of even scarier,” said Zeinemann.

Hurd’s body was found Sunday inside her home on Werburgh Street.

The next day police announced that Hurd had been killed.

“Hearing that it’s a homicide and they don’t know who did it is a little more concerning, kind of freaks us out a little bit, this is a generally safe area, kind of freaked out that it’s not as safe as we thought it was,” said Gage.

Police found Hurd’s BMW Thursday morning, but they won’t say where.

“A little more information would definitely help ease some of the concerns and worries, especially in the neighborhood,” said Zeinemann.

Until then, Gage says he’ll keep his guard up for himself and his wife.

“Probably going to be sending the dog out with her if she needs to walk around the neighborhood at night, we just got to protect ourselves I guess, until we figure out what’s going on, and I hope whoever did it isn’t still in the area,” said Gage.

Police aren’t releasing any information about the motive or circumstances leading to Whitney Hurd’s murder.
