National media outlet makes big prediction for Panthers QB Bryce Young while subtly insulting him

CBS Sports made a big prediction for Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young this week, but they subtly insulted him in the process.

The national sports media outlet predicted which quarterbacks will exceed expectations and which ones will underperform in 2024.

Young is one of the quarterbacks that CBS Sports thinks will exceed expectations this fall, though they mostly think that because the expectations are "so low".

From CBS Sports : For Young, expectations are so low that he almost has to exceed them . He also has Dave Canales coming in as his head coach, and Canales orchestrated the career resurgences for Geno Smith and Baker Mayfield. He'll put Young in position to succeed.

Yikes. That's gotta be tough to read if you're Young.

There's no doubt that Young's rookie season was challenging. But that can be mostly attributed to the fact that Carolina was a dumpster fire last season. Frank Reich, who was hired to replace Matt Rhule as the franchise's head coach ahead of the 2023 season, was fired after just 11 games in Charlotte. That's not exactly an ideal situation for a rookie quarterback (he also didn't have a great offensive line, nor did he have elite talent around him).

2024 will certainly be a pivotal season for Young. If he doesn't show that he's capable of being a franchise quarterback, the Panthers will likely search for another quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft. Though with Dave Canales set to take over as the Panthers' head coach in 2024, it's worth giving Young a fresh slate. I don't think we can hold 2023 against the former Alabama quarterback -- I can't imagine any player who would've thrived under those circumstances.
