Cam Newton is an awfully good resource to have if you want to learn how to succeed under center for the Carolina Panthers. And luckily for Bryce Young, the greatest player in franchise history has been exactly that.

The second-year quarterback spoke with reporters on Tuesday afternoon, less than 24 hours before the start of training camp. He was asked about his chat with Newton at this year’s ESPY Awards.

“I’ve had a couple of exchanges with Cam, and we’ve talked multiple times,” Young said. “Obviously, he’s been here, he’s done great things here. So I’ve tried to pick his brain about some things. I’m grateful for his support, I’m grateful for him still caring so much about the organization.”

Newton—over his nine and a half years in Charlotte—led the organization to three division titles, four total playoff berths and the second-ever Super Bowl appearance. He also achieved quite a bit of individual success in that time—collecting honors as the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2011 as well as the Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Year in 2015.

So, yeah, he’s a solid guy to listen to.

Young was then asked if Newton has given him any advice.

“Yeah, just keep working,” he replied. “He loves the city, he loves the organization. And just to know that that’s something we’re all striving for the same thing. But just continue to work, continue to grind the same way and that’s something I’ll take to heart.”

Hopefully for Young, his heart-to-hearts with his fellow No. 1 overall pick will soon pay off.
