    8,000 without power around Charlotte following strong storms: Duke Energy

    CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — More than 8,000 are without power around Charlotte Tuesday afternoon.

    According to Duke Energy officials, the outages were reported between 2:40 and 3:30 p.m. The areas most impacted are in southeast Charlotte, along Pineville-Matthews Road and in NoDa.

    The outages come following strong thunderstorms in the area.

    SW Charlotte

    There are 2,100 customers without power along South Tryon Street south of Woodlawn Road. The estimated time of restoration is 8:45 p.m.

    South Charlotte

    There are 1,100 customers without power along Pineville-Matthews Road between Carmel Road and Rea Road. The restoration time is estimated for 9:45 p.m.

    NoDa

    There are 1,600 customers without power in the northern part of NoDa extending beyond Sugar Creek Road. The power is expected to be restored by 9 p.m.

    East Charlotte

    More than 500 customers lost power around the intersection of Albemarle Road and East W.T. Harris Blvd. Duke Energy says fallen trees or limbs damaged equipment in the area. It’s estimated to be restored by 9:15 p.m.
