Can Trump help make RCR great again? Richard Childress is one of the most legendary team owners in NASCAR, having won six Cup Series championships (all as the owner of the #3 car for Dale Earnhardt) and 116 Cup races since his team debuted in 1969 with Childress himself as the driver. It's been a rough year for Richard Childress Racing, which currently fields the #3 car for Childress' grandson Austin Dillon, as well as the #8 car for two-time Cup Series champion Kyle Busch. Both drivers are in serious danger of missing the playoffs, with Busch currently sitting at 18th in the points and Dillon at 32nd. And Busch has been vocal about his frustration with the team's performance, after winning 3 races last year during his first season with RCR. So yeah, on the track things aren't going great for Childress. But earlier today, the team owner took some time to visit a friend who was passing through North Carolina: Former President (and current GOP presidential nominee) Donald Trump. Trump was in Charlotte, North Carolina today for his first rally since the assassination attempt on July 13, and his first rally since President Joe Biden announced that he was dropping out of the presidential race. And in front of a packed crowd at the Bojangles Coliseum, Childress was on hand to do the honors of introducing the former president before his speech. During his introduction, the avid outdoorsman highlighted Trump's support of the Second Amendment:
"One thing that we all cherish so much is our Second Amendment. This administration wants to take our firearms, they want to abolish the Second Amendment and leave us without any protection for our families. And Donald Trump, our 47th president, will not let that happen. I promise you." https://twitter.com/HowardMortman/status/1816264369115709509 It's no surprise that Childress would appear alongside Trump, who attended the Coca-Cola 600 earlier this year and spent some time watching the race alongside Childress on top of Dillon's pit box. https://twitter.com/HowardMortman/status/1794861010534514920
