CHARLOTTE ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — Roughly 435,000 Mecklenburg County 2024 property tax bills will be mailed out on July 31, the county says.

This includes real property, individual personal property and business personal property taxes. Properties with tax records or values under appeal will also be sent out.

In June, the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners passed a 1-cent property tax hike bringing the tax rate to 48 cents per $100 in value.

Bills are due by September 1, but must be paid by January 6, 2025, to avoid late fees.

Starting on January 7, 2025, an additional 2% interest rate will be added to any unpaid bills. As of February 2025, an additional 0.75% increase will be added for each month the bill remains unpaid.

Anyone who may have trouble paying their bill is encouraged to get in touch with the T ax Collector’s Office in August. Officials stress that those reaching out for assistance should not wait until the due date has passed.

Those with mortgage escrow accounts will have the tax bills sent to the mortgage holder, and the property owner will get a tax notification from the Tax Collector’s Office.
