Panthers WR Jonathan Mingo: 'I just got a better feel for the game'

The Carolina Panthers’ early frontrunner for training camp MVP hit the lectern today.

Second-year receiver and summer standout Jonathan Mingo chatted with reporters following Monday’s practice. He was asked what he’s focusing on entering his sophomore campaign.

“Just working on the things I know I need to work on,” Mingo replied. “Getting a better feel for the game, getting used to the speed and everything and adjusting to everything.”

Whatever adjustments Mingo has made seem to be paying off. The 23-year-old made a number of eye-opening catches during the first week of training camp and has developed a strong connection with quarterback and fellow 2023 draftee Bryce Young.

That, however, wasn’t the case for Mingo as a rookie. The second-round pick amassed just 418 yards and zero touchdowns over 43 receptions last season.

But Mingo knows the key to a jump in 2024 is in the details.

“I just got a better feel for the game,” he said. “Going from a college offense to an NFL offense, getting used to signals and everything, being in the huddle, hearing the whole play call, knowing what I got, knowing the splits and everything, the timing. All that matters in the league—you can get away with it in college, but you can’t do that in the NFL. So just trying to be a little more detailed.”
