Roughly a week before the Carolina Panthers make a preseason debut, the team is in the market for another quarterback.

Head coach Dave Canales told reporters Thursday that backup quarterback Andy Dalton suffered a quad injury that will keep him out of the lineup for a few weeks .

“Andy’s got a quad injury right now, so we’re just trying to get him back. I’m not sure exactly of the timeline," Canales said. "It’s a couple of weeks, but we’ll work him through it and it was good for Jack Plummer to get out there to get those reps."

Dalton, 36, missed the Panthers Fan Fest event with the injury, allowing Plummer to get some much-needed reps.

However, the multi-week absence of Dalton leaves only starting quarterback Bryce Young and Plummer, an undrafted rookie, as the only two arms on the roster.

It wouldn't be shocking to see the Panthers look to add another quarterback to the roster. Some names that come to mind are Trevor Siemian and Blaine Gabbert.

Canales has hinted at adding another arm throughout the offseason. Dalton's injury opens the door to that becoming reality.

Still, the Panthers head coach wants to see what Plummer has to offer in the near future.

“Jack’s going to play a lot and then we’re still working through getting another quarterback here for the time being while we don’t have Andy," Canales stated.
