Dave Canales gives an encouraging update on Bryce Young's progress

As the first preseason game is approaching, Dave Canales claims Bryce Young's game is moving in the right direction .

All eyes are on the second-year quarterback as he works to rebuild his standing in the league after a flailing 2-15 rookie campaign.

During the Panthers' Fan Fest event, Canales claimed Young showed positive signs alongside the new additions to the Carolina Panthers offense.

"I would say good, not great,” Canales said of Young's performance during the inter-squad scrimmage . “He definitely is gonna be critical of himself on a couple of the plays. But I thought when we had the protection and the concepts were there, he nailed it. And he was accurate like we’ve seen all camp and that was so exciting to see.”

According to ESPN's David Newton , Young went 11 of his 18 attempts for one touchdown during the scrimmage.

Young started slow but finished the season strong, according to The Associated Press .

The first three drives for the first-team offense ended without any points, but Young found veteran wide receiver Adam Thielen — his favorite target last season — for a 2-yard touchdown pass on his final drive to end the night on a positive note, according to the AP.

“He is definitely going to be critical of himself on a couple of the plays, but I thought that when we had the protection and the concepts were there, he nailed it," Canales said. "He was accurate just like he has been all [training] camp.”

Canales highlighted Young's strengths on a touchdown drive where the quarterback went 4 of 6 passing.

“I keep preaching finish, and that type of finish on that last drive, to see it all come together was great,” Canales said. “And I was really excited about the receivers, the different guys coming in to make plays."

With Andy Dalton sidelined with an injury, Jack Plummer, an undrafted rookie, will get some quarterback reps before Carolina inevitably signs another veteran arm .
