Tracking: Scattered showers and storms continue this weekend across the Charlotte area

CHARLOTTE ( PINPOINT WEATHER ) — Friday was full of heat, scattered showers, and severe storms. The stormy pattern will linger all weekend, with storms more likely in the afternoon and evening. Stay weather-aware!

The enhanced storm chances this weekend are due to a weak front moving in from the west. It’s a cold front, yes, but it won’t dramatically drop temperatures or humidity! However, it will bring us down to a more ‘seasonable’ level of heat. The average high for this early part of August is 90; we’ll end up right around that number on Saturday and Sunday.

Next week’s forecast is… shall we say… “iffy”. We’re tracking Potential Tropical Cyclone Four over Cuba, which is forecast to become Tropical Storm Debby by early next week.

At this point, it’s forecast to track off the Florida Gulf coast, then possibly get stronger as it heads northeast toward the Carolina coast.

Still too early for details, but this could enhance our heavy rain chances by the middle of the week. If you have property or interests along the coast, plan for possible flooding and wind impacts at this point. Keep checking in for updates on Queen City News!

Saturday : Partly cloudy with scattered storms developing. High 91.

Sunday : Partly sunny with areas of showers and storms. 72/89.
