Traci Zeller, a prominent Charlotte-based interior designer and attorney, died unexpectedly on Saturday, her husband Michael confirmed to the Observer Monday morning. She was 50.

Zeller not only ran her south Charlotte business, Traci Zeller Interiors, and worked as a white collar criminal defense attorney at Paul Hastings in Washington, D.C., but was also a mother of twin boys.

People have taken to social media to post about Zeller since news of her passing broke.

“It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of DLN Member Traci Zeller, a beloved member of our community and friend to many,” said Design Leadership Network in a social media post. “Traci’s kindness, warmth, exceptional style, and love for her family and friends will be deeply missed.”

According to her LinkedIn profile, Zeller received her bachelor’s of science in business administration from the University of Richmond, and then her law degree from the University of Virginia. Zeller received her bachelor’s degree in 1996 and law degree in 1999, according to the Paul Hastings website.

For a year, her LinkedIn profile says, she worked as a judicial law clerk in the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in Montgomery, Alabama, in the 1990s. She began working at Paul Hastings in 2023, her LinkedIn says.

It also says she launched her interior design business in 2010.

She often showcased her craft on social media, as well as the different things that inspired her work, like traveling around the world and art.

“If you know me at all, you know I love to travel,” Zeller said in an Instagram post from October 2023. “Just getting out of my daily point of view and seeing beautiful architecture, art, and furnishings I don’t normally get to see opens my imagination to a wealth of new and different ideas.”

Zeller’s work quickly launched her to the pages of magazines in publications such as Charlotte Magazine, Architectural Digest, and Better Homes and Gardens. It also landed her clients in the Charlotte region and beyond.

In a social media post from September 2023, Zeller said it had been two decades since she designed her family’s home in Charlotte.

“At the time, my twin boys weren’t yet a twinkle in my eye and I was still a practicing attorney,” she said in the post. “I had no idea that the experience of thinking through the thousands of decisions — big and small — to create a beautiful, functional home for myself, my husband, and our future family would eventually grow into a new career and a respected design firm with my name on it.”
