The body of a 15-year-old boy missing since Sept. 4 was discovered Tuesday in southwest Charlotte, police said. Anthony Smith had been shot.

Police began a search after he was reported missing, according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department news release Wednesday.

Police responded to the 600 block of Silverleaf Road on Tuesday and located human remains. The news release didn’t specify exactly where, but the area includes a wooded neighborhood with single-family homes.

The state medical examiner’s office on Wednesday identified the remains as Anthony’s, police said. Detectives are investigating the case as a homicide.

Reconciling the World Ministries, a church in Charlotte, was among those who posted photos and information about Anthony’s disappearance on Facebook in recent days. The post said he was last seen in Fort Mill.

This is a developing story and will be updated.

so sorry for the family's loss. This is so sad how so many people and especially young are being killed. He was probably killed by another teenager. Everything is about gun violence now. Years ago it would be a fist fight if there was a problem. I'm praying for his family. RIP young man.
