The more desperate Donald Trump gets, the more he lies | Opinion

Desperate times call for desperate measures. As the polls look more and more like you’re going to lose, tell more lies. Lies about everything. Crime rates. The economy. A nonexistent healthcare plan. How you can end wars instantly. A lie with every breath. And make them more outrageous by the day.

And, quick, before the opportunity for grift is gone, sell coins and watches.

    Middle East

As we hear destruction of lives and livelihoods in the Middle East, think what hate and denial of rights to others yields for both sides.

When did we exit the so-called Age of Enlightenment? Is mutual destruction the only option?

    Ron Green Sr.

I’m saddened by the passing of former Observer sportswriter Ron Green Sr.

When Green Sr. penned the game, whatever sport, it projected like a Norman Rockwell painting. It was wholesome, concise, honest, on point. He was in his element when he wrote about golf and especially The Masters.

In keeping with his annual Thanksgiving column which was inspiring and kept one grounded, this year around my family’s Thanksgiving dinner, I will be thankful for the contributions and life of Ron Green Sr..

    Medical debt

Regarding “Inside North Carolina’s fight to make hospitals relieve billions of patient debt” ( Sept. 23 ) and other reports:

So Atrium/Advocate finally decided to do the right thing after filing around 500 debt collection lawsuits per year. Most people who don’t pay their medical bills just don’t have the money. How much has Atrium spent on armies of lawyers to file these low-yield lawsuits?

We wonder why one-third of every healthcare dollar is wasted on administrative overhead. There is a better way. Under an Improved Medicare for All system, medical debt simply would not exist. No fire department ever sued a home or business owner after saving their building. Health care can work the same way.

    Josh Stein ads

Josh Stein’s political advertising is misleading to the voters. Stein’s use of the Mark Robinson quote “keep her skirt down” alienates women voters but the full quote admonishes men “to keep their pants up.” The media has played along with this distortion ad nauseam.

The daycare ad, which tugs on your emotions, has Mark Robinson in an orange prison jumpsuit. This is dirty politics.

    Rural NC votes

The author is a former U.S. Representative, NC-01:

In rural North Carolina more than 3 million citizens are speaking up this election with a strong voice. It is imperative that Democrats not only hear but actively engage with issues essential to our communities: from access to health care, access to healthy food, and quality education, to sustainable economics through small businesses and farming.

Rural Communities are great places to live; quiet, clean environment, surrounded by nature, outdoor recreation, and good neighbors. However, our communities lack economic opportunities. Our young people are forced to leave for good-paying jobs.

We challenge all candidates to listen to our experiences, understand our aspirations, and visit our towns and counties. This is more than just winning our votes, it is about ensuring that the voices of rural North Carolina are being heard.

    Organ harvesting

When you’re a prisoner in a Chinese labor camp, subjected to abuse, why would blood samples be taken? Falun Gong practitioners, incarcerated for their beliefs, have learned the hard way. The blood draw was for organ and tissue matching. China markets organ transplants worldwide and procures organs by force.

In June, the U.S. House unanimously passed H.R.4132, the Falun Gong Protection Act, which would impose visa- and property-blocking sanctions on foreign persons who are involved in forced organ harvesting in China. On July 31, the Senate introduced companion bill S. 4914. Thanks to Sen. Thom Tillis for co-sponsoring. Please urge Sen. Budd to co-sponsor too.
