A new 100-acre complex next to Charlotte Motor Speedway and NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick of Hendrick Motorsports will have a lot to offer for auto racers and automotive lovers alike.

Hendrick and Speedway Motorsports announced on Thursday that they are collaborating on the project at the Concord track and calling it Ten Tenths Motor Club. Located outside Turns 1 and 2, the project includes a lighted road course, a special event facility, garage and off-road driving trails.

The major undertaking is named after a motorsports term to measure how hard a driver is pushing their car to its limit. The facility should be open by next April.

“We are going all out to create a place to celebrate the automobile unlike any other place in the world,” stated Marcus Smith, president and CEO of Speedway Motorsports, in a news release.

It’s the most expansive property development at the speedway since the zMAX Dragway across from the track was built in 2008, according to Smith. The cost of the project was not disclosed.

“It’s a tremendous business opportunity when you think about the economic impact of auto racing in the Carolinas because of this hub of performance and the mobility and the racing business and the NASCAR business in this area,” Smith said during the event. “It’s unmatched by anything.

“And probably one of the coolest things ever is to be able to get an opportunity to work with one of your heroes — And that’s Rick Hendrick,” Smith told the audience. “The chance to partner with him on this project is just priceless for me and my brothers.”

Ten Tenths will have resources and infrastructure to support customers and organizations, in addition to a premier track design and driving experience, according to Hendrick, chairman and CEO of Hendrick Automotive Group and owner of NASCAR’s Hendrick Motorsports.

“I think the major impact of having this here will be people flying in from all over the country,” Hendrick said of people wanting to use the facility.

Hendrick, an avid car collector, spoke about sharing a love of automobiles and racing with Smith and his brothers.

“I love cars and I don’t get a chance to exercise the cars — worrying about getting a ticket on (Interstate 85),” Hendrick said, while getting laughs from the audience.
