A 19-year-old biker was killed along a rural North Carolina highway when he drove straight into a log hanging off the back of a logging truck, the N.C. State Highway Patrol reports.

The motorcyclist was identified as Keaton Stone McGlamery of Statesville, troopers said in a news release.

It happened around 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, on NC 115 north of Statesville, according to Master Trooper Christopher Casey of the State Highway Patrol. Statesville is about a 40-mile drive north from Charlotte.

“A 2005 Honda motorcycle traveling north on NC 115 attempted to pass a 1969 Chevrolet logging truck in a no-passing zone as the truck turned left into the Progressive Power Equipment & Landscape parking lot,” Casey said.

The motorcycle “struck a log extending off the back of the trailer. The driver of the Honda ... was thrown from the motorcycle and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.”

The trucker was not hurt. He was identified as 67-year-old Floyd Eugene Osborne Jesse Henry of Statesville, officials said.

“Initial investigation indicates excessive speed and improper passing to be the contributing circumstances in the collision. No charges will be filed,” Casey said.
