Three students, one driver taken to hospital after Union County Public Schools bus crash

Two Union County Public Schools buses were involved in an accident Monday morning on Goldmine Road near a district bus depot in Monroe.

A total of 12 students were involved — three from Central Academy of Technology and Arts and nine from Monroe Middle School, UCPS Assistant Superintendent of Communications and Commmunity Relations Tahira Stalberte told The Charlotte Observer.

Three students and a bus driver were transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Some uninjured students were picked up by parents, and others were taken to school via a different bus.

The collision occurred as one bus exited the driveway of the UCPS bus garage at 3319 Goldmine Road and the second bus was traveling east on Goldmine Road, according to Monroe Police Department. No other vehicles were involved in the accident. The Charlotte Observer is asking UCPS and Monroe Police Department for more information on the crash.

Two weeks ago, another another crash in Union County injured three students and the driver when the driver ran off Mill Grove Road. In that incident, the sheriff’s office said there was nothing to indicate any “extreme wrongdoing” by the driver.
