Oakland County man wins nearly $450k buying Fantasy 5 ticket on a whim

(WWJ) An Oakland County man won almost $450,000 on a Fantasy 5 jackpot from the Michigan Lottery.

The man, 43, who chose to remain anonymous, matched the Fantasy 5 numbers in the May 28th drawing: 07-16-24-29-31. He bought his winning ticket at 7-Eleven on Hayes at 18 Mile Road in Clinton Township.

He won $446,571.

“I usually play Mega Millions and Powerball, but when I was at the store, I made a last-minute decision to purchase a Fantasy 5 ticket,” he said in a press release from Michigan Lottery. “A few days later, I was at the same store and people were talking about how a big Fantasy 5 winner was sold there. I scanned my ticket, and that’s when I knew I was the big winner! The excitement in our house has been through the roof!”

He has claimed his prize from Lottery headquarters. He said he plans to invest the money and put it into his kids’ college funds.

Each Fantasy 5 play is $1. The drawings are held seven days a week at 7:29 p.m. Additional money, in increments of $1, can give players another chance to win money ranging from $500 to $110,000 via EzMatch and Double Play. Fantasy 5 players select five numbers between one to 39. Players who match all five numbers win a jackpot that starts at $100,000. Tickets can be purchased until 7:08 p.m. each night.
