CLINTON TWP. (WWJ) — A Clinton Township man is facing a number of charges, including first-degree murder and attempted murder, after allegedly shooting his mother and brother over the 4th of July holiday weekend.

Corey Deyshaun Cook, 24, is accused of shooting his 49-year-old mother, Yolanda Cook, and his 31-year-old brother at their home on July 5.

His mother was pronounced dead at the scene, while his brother remains at a hospital on life support, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office.

Officials said after the shooting, Cook went to the Clinton Township Police Department and told officers he had shot two people.

Cook was arrested and police found the victims when they went to the home to perform a welfare check.

Cook was arraigned on charges of first-degree premeditated murder, assault with intent to murder, and two counts of felony firearm. If convicted, he could spend the rest of his life in jail.

Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Patrick Sierawski requested the court to give Cook the highest bond possible “due to the heinous and dangerous nature” of the allegations, according to the prosecutor’s office.

Bond was set at $1 million cash/surety. His next court date is scheduled for July 22.

“Our office is committed to seeking justice for the victims and their family. We will ensure that the accused is held fully accountable for this alleged premeditated act of violence," Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido said, per a press release.

The prosecutor’s office did not release any information about a possible motive or what led to the shooting.
