A Minnesota River highway crossing connecting the Shakopee area to downtown Chaska will close Thursday morning due to flooding.

The closure is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Thursday, June 20, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Authorities in Scott and Carver counties are advising drivers to plan ahead and follow the posted detour routes.

The affected stretch of Highway 41 extends just north of Dem Con Drive in Scott County to First Street in downtown Chaska.

The closure will remain in effect until the water recedes and any resulting road damage is repaired, according to the Scott County Sheriff's Office.

Water levels are rising across the Twin Cities as frequent, heavy rainfall continues.

The latest forecast for the Mississippi River in St. Paul anticipates water levels will rise 6.5 feet in the next week, with the river nearly reaching major flood stage on June 25.

The Minnesota River level in Savage is expected to nearly reach moderate flood stage in the same timeframe.
