The Illinois State Police investigation into the July 6 shooting death of Sonya Massey at the hands of Sangamon County sheriff’s deputies is complete. And Massey’s family plans to meet with ISP officials and the Sangamon County state’s attorney the afternoon of July 17 at the Springfield NAACP building at 801 S. 11th St. to discuss the status of the case.

Autopsies Scheduled for Today Following Fatal Crash Friday
White County Coroner Chris Marsh says autopsies are scheduled for today in Springfield following a fatal accident just outside Carmi Friday. Illinois State Police say a 2000 Maroon Ford Mustang was southbound on Route 1 approaching 1350 North while a 2023 white Kia Forte was northbound at the same location. The vehicles collided near the center of the roadway. The drivers of both vehicles were pronounced dead on scene. A passenger in the Mustang, identified on social media as Kenny Ripley, was taken to an Evansville hospital with injuries. He suffered a broken arm, leg and foot as a result of the crash and is due for surgery Monday morning. Funeral arrangements are pending for Stormy Baker. Bloomington man convicted of murder in 2019 shooting death
A McLean County jury has convicted a Bloomington man of first-degree murder for a fatal shooting on New Year's Eve 2019. Prosecutors say Dewon Griffin, who is now 24, was arrested in January 2020 while hiding in a makeshift crawlspace at a Bloomington residence.
