In recent weeks Louisiana's coastal waters have been a bit on the tumultuous side. The passing of Hurricane Beryl just to the west of the state certainly kicked up the surf. This led to numerous coastal advisories for flooding, rip currents, and rough seas in general. And while the waters in the Gulf of Mexico may have calmed considerably since Beryl's passing there are still some dangers that bathers at Louisiana's most popular beaches should be aware of.
Boogie Down the Bayou – A fundraiser to support veterans, fallen first responders
DENHAM SPRINGS – On Sunday, July 21st, the Louisiana VFW District 8 is hosting a heartfelt fundraiser for the Tunnels to Towers Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting America’s heroes. The event, aptly named “Boogie Down the Bayou,” will take place from 11 AM to 7 PM.
LSU Captures Eight Individual Honors on the LSWA All-Louisiana Track & Field Team
BATON ROUGE – Seven LSU athletes earned top honors in the 2024 Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s All-Louisiana Track and Field team announced this weekend. A panel of track media/communications members nominated and selected the award winners for both men and women. A list was also compiled with the aide of the Track & Field Results Reporting System of the athletes that are honored All-Louisiana best times.
Town of Jonesboro Remains Under a Water Boil Advisory
The Water Boil Advisory for the Town of Jonesboro that was issued on Saturday, July 20th, remains in effect. According to Jonesboro Mayor J. “Spike” Harris, low water pressure started being reported early Saturday morning, prompting an immediate response by the Town of Jonesboro Public Works Water Department. Their swift action quickly identified a 20′ long crack in a major water main on Polk Avenue near the Jonesboro Council on Aging Robert Riddle Senior Center that had also caused the “high tank” to completely drain.

Cali Deal of Quitman High School has been selected to the 2024 SBLive Louisiana All-State Softball Team comprised of the top players in the state from all classifications and divisions. The reigning Class B Most Valuable Player (MVP) was selected as a first team utility player after compiling a sparkling 20-3 record and a miniscule 0.98 ERA, while also batting .440 with 4 home runs and 30 RBI to lead QHS to the LHSAA Division V “non-select” state title this past spring.

Louisiana EF-2 Tornado Struck Near Shreveport Monday, 53 Miles Long, Lasting Over 90 Minutes
Shreveport, LA – A devastating 53-mile long track tornado touched down in northern Red River and Bossier Parish, Louisiana, on Monday, July 8. The National Weather Service in Shreveport confirmed the tornado, rating it an EF-2 with estimated peak winds of 115 mph. The tornado, which occurred between 2:15 PM and 3:50 PM, lasted over 90 minutes and left a path of destruction approximately 1,000 yards wide, causing two injuries and one fatality.
