Chattanooga, TN – According to the Chattanooga Police Department officials, this initiative aims to combat speeding and raise awareness about its dangers, running from July 15 to July 21.

During this period, drivers will notice increased enforcement on all roads as agencies work together to promote safer driving habits.

Speed limits are not mere suggestions; they are legally enforced and based on scientific research to ensure the safety of everyone on the road.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding was a factor in one-third of traffic fatalities in 2022.

Contrary to common belief, speeding is not just a problem on interstates. In fact, 91% of speed-related crashes in our region occurred on non-interstate highways in 2022.

“Operation Southern Slow Down” serves as a crucial reminder of the importance of adhering to speed limits to prevent accidents and save lives.
