Fired up: Local fire department looking to restore part of its history

CHAUMONT, N.Y. (WWTI) – One north country fire department is restoring a part of its history.

The Chaumont Volunteer Department was able to buy back one of their antique fire trucks. The truck is a 1947 Dodge Fire Truck was in operation in 1966.

The department purchased the truck with “the hopes of using it for education, preserving history, public relations and teaching students and residents about Chaumont and the fire service history” according to a post on the department’s Facebook page.

Four department members picked up the truck with the help of Burrville Power Equipment for lending the department a trailer to retrieve the vehicle.

Chaumont Volunteer Fire Department is celebrating 110 years serving our community from 1914 to 2024. The department hopes the community comes out and sees the truck on display at this Sunday’s celebration at the Chaumont Fire Hall.

The parade starts at noon from Morris Track Road and lead to the Chaumont Fire Department. There will be games, music, classic car show, K-9 show, Safe Child ID cards, vendors, food sold all day and more after the parade.
