CHEBOYGAN — Taking on the Traverse City St. Francis Gladiators has been a nightmare for the Cheboygan Chiefs since they joined the Northern Michigan Football League Legends Division years ago.

Friday was no different as the Chiefs struggled to hang with the Gladiators in a 55-6 loss at Western Avenue Field.

The Gladiators (5-1, 3-0 NMFL Legends) piled up almost 500 yards against the Chiefs (3-3, 0-2), who found themselves in a 41-0 hole at halftime. The Chiefs finished with 250 yards offensively.

MACKINAC ISLAND — The Mackinaw City volleyball team competed at the Mackinac Island tournament on Saturday.

The Comets (11-10-2) split with Beaver Island (18-25, 25-24) in its second match, but dropped games against Cedarville (12-25, 17-25) and Burr Oak (9-25, 15-25).

“Saturday was a day where we weren't at our best and we had a difficult time getting into any consistent rhythm,” Mackinaw City coach Jake Huffman said. “All three teams we played today were sharp, played very well, and had some solid volleyball talent. We struggled establishing consistency in our serving, passing, and in getting into system, while our opponents were in system.”
