Vote for the Cheboygan Daily Tribune’s 2023-24 high school boys athlete of the year

CHEBOYGAN – A new high school sports season is coming in August.

But at the same time, I haven’t forgotten about the awesomeness of the 2023-24 Cheboygan area sports year .

As we look back at 2023-24, I wanted to recognize some of the top athletes by doing a boys high school athlete of the year poll. The poll opens on Wednesday morning and closes at 12 p.m. on Saturday, July 13.

Here’s the nominees:

Gavin Rose, Cheboygan – An outstanding three-sport athlete, the Cheboygan senior was a top player on the football, hockey and golf teams.

Sean Postula, Cheboygan – Playing two sports, Postula earned all-conference honors in football and baseball. Made the All-SAC first team.

Aidan Fenstermaker, Inland Lakes – Had an outstanding three-sport campaign by earning all-state first team honors in football and all-conference recognition in football, basketball and baseball. Also, he was an all-state honorable mention in baseball. Was the Tribune’s 2023 football player of the year.

Connor Wallace, Inland Lakes – Another exceptional three-sport athlete at Inland Lakes, Wallace earned first team all-state honors in baseball, as well as all-conference nods in cross country, basketball and baseball. Was named the Daily Tribune’s 2024 baseball player of the year.

Lucas Bergstrom, Mackinaw City – Made the All-Northern Lakes Conference first team in both basketball and baseball, while also being named to the Tribune’s all-area teams in the same sports.

Trystan Swanson, Mackinaw City – Another stellar three-sport competitor, Swanson earned all-conference honors in cross country, basketball and baseball. Made the Tribune’s all-area basketball first team.

Jadin Mix, Onaway – Picked up all-state honors in basketball and track and field and was also named the Daily Tribune’s 2023-24 area co-player of the year in hoops. Earned All-Ski Valley accolades in cross country, basketball and track and field.

Austin Veal, Onaway – For a second consecutive year, was named as a Daily Tribune co-player of the year in basketball. Earned All-Ski Valley Conference honors in basketball and baseball.

Brach Taylor, Pellston – Had a terrific football season that saw him make the All-Ski Valley and Daily Tribune’s all-area first teams, while also having a solid track and field campaign.
